Thoughts are powerful. They are energy. Every thought we have is sent out, is transmitted.
When we’re in a quiet space, we can pick up others thoughts. And think they’re ours.
Animals are really good at picking up our thoughts. We impact those close to us a great deal, just by our thoughts.
Suppose we have a close friend/family member who is planning on doing something, going somewhere we feel they won’t be able to handle, for whatever reason. Even if we don’t say anything, our negative thoughts will make it more difficult for them to achieve this.
Suppose we are fearful for our loved ones health and worry about that lot. The impact on them can be so strong as to cause an illness.
We are far more powerful than we have ever been told. But because we don’t know we’re doing it, our influence tends to be more negative than positive.
There is a lovely quote that expresses this perfectly:
“If you think you can, or think you can’t, either way you’re right.”
This means we create our own life.
That’s not to say we aren’t influenced by others. But we ALLOW that influence. We DO have a choice. We don’t HAVE to. We can consider the others point of view. Then accept it or reject it according to our ethics, philosophy, beliefs, logic, knowledge, wisdom, etc.
If we unknowingly have a negative influence on ourselves and others, why not change that when we know? Why not change that to a positive influence?
Here’s an example. Many small businesses are created every year. There is a high rate of failure in the first few years. However, some go from strength to strength and thrive, whatever the economy is doing.
Partly that will be because the product or service is needed. Partly that will be because they are really good to deal with, they are people friendly. However, I believe the most important reason is because they KNOW they will thrive. They totally believe they will. Each negative challenge is easily confronted, dealt with and swept aside.
We all have negative thoughts from time to time. Things are going wrong and don’t work and we can’t figure it out.
When we can do something about it, coming at the problem on another day or time, can often work. Asking for help, either personally or learning, if it’s outside our knowledge or skill can also help.
When we can’t do anything about it, such as if the problem is on the other side of the world, or has nothing to do with us directly, we CAN have a positive effect by our thoughts.
Suppose it’s an earthquake, or whatever, and there are landslides, flooding, a lot of loss of life. Instead of feeling sorry or bad about it, we can imagine the area as calm, serene, beautiful, with healthy activity, whatever feels good to us.
It has to feel good to us. It is quite personal. For example, I would see it as a beautiful and thriving natural scene, birds flitting in trees, animals peacefully grazing. Someone else might see it as a thriving, bustling city.
This DOES have an impact. On a small and a large scale.
When I had to sterilise a scared tom cat, who was frantic in his carrier, instead of forcing him, I left it. For the next few weeks (I can’t remember the time interval, but it was probably a few weeks as I kept forgetting), I just imagined him calmly walking into and resting in his carrier.
One day, he did just that.
The vet was available. The deed was done easily with no fuss, stress or anxiety.
We need to learn to catch those negative thoughts and turn them around, into positive thoughts. If that’s too difficult, then we can simply say ‘it could be better’.
That allows a positive outcome.
Then leave it and go on with our day. If the thought keeps returning, we can keep repeating that phrase,
Practice makes perfect.
This is how we should be. This gives us the strength to live our purpose. Nothing is fixed. Nothing is set in concrete. Everything can change.
